In 2008, Thierry Henry was one of France’s most experienced and talented players, but it was a difficult year for both him and the national team. As a key forward under coach Raymond Domenech, Henry was expected to lead France’s attack at Euro 2008. However, the tournament was a disaster for Les Bleus, as they were eliminated in the group stage after failing to win a single match against Romania, the Netherlands, and Italy. Henry managed to score a goal in the 4-1 defeat to the Netherlands, but France struggled to find cohesion and creativity in attack. At the club level, Henry was playing for Barcelona, adjusting to life in Spain after leaving Arsenal in 2007. Despite the disappointment of Euro 2008, Henry remained a crucial figure for France in the following years and would go on to play a controversial role in their qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
